Project Description
Antonio Johnson’s latest work is a documentary photo series titled You Next. The project seeks to chronicle the communities that exist within black barber shops and explore the ways they operate as sites for identity formation and wellness work.
As part of You Next, Johnson will use the medium of wheatpaste to create six large-format (6’ x 6’) murals/environmental portraits made in and around Atlanta. The wheat paste murals will be located throughout the city on walls of both occupied and unoccupied buildings to give the public a glimpse into the barber shop community. You Next aims to highlight the barber shop as a space worthy of investigation, and to reimagine its offerings beyond just a haircut.
