Description
Serving Face is an investigation and documentation of Atlanta’s unique drag scene. Atlanta has forged many founding members of modern drag, and Atlanta queens continue to have their own distinctive style. Many queens connect to their female personas as part of a greater creative process and push this act into the realm of performance art. The main focus of Serving Face is a documentation of drag culture; however, the project allows the artist a unique sense of participation. The detail-intensive process of creating work through embroidery and animation speaks to the many hours it takes a queen to transform. With drag’s recent meteoric rise in popularity and its newfound connections with alternative queer culture, it is these local scenes and fledgling queens that are under-documented. Serving Face will not only portray the unique history of drag in Atlanta but also spotlight the faces of local queens through portraiture.
