Project Description

Hawkins Headquarters is a contemporary art gallery nestled into a 1960s motel that has been renovated into a fully functioning exhibition space. The space’s architecture is inspired by Japanese architecture collective Mouth Plus Two that converts previous existing buildings into exhibition spaces through forceful design often punching out spaces in buildings and converting them into exhibition spaces. The philosophy behind this collective follows similar ideals to how HQ imagines a space can be converted to facilitate tactile, experiential exhibition design through transformation. Hawkins headquarters looks to supply its artist’s with funds to explore exhibition design around the contents of the work they intended to exhibit. With gallery spaces having more and more focus on the online viewing experience of artwork, HQ intends to use exhibition design as a visual aid for the work and use social media, art publications and blogs as a method to share artists' exhibitions outside of our brick and mortar location in Atlanta.
