Project Description

Legendary Children of Atlanta began in 2013 as a group photography exhibit, showcasing Atlanta's up and coming drag queens and queer performance artists. Almost five years later, these artists are still thriving, hosting their own shows, and solidifying their mark on ATL's iconic drag landscape. This project also opened the door for Dean to create Wussy Mag, an online publication and platform for Southern and Queer artists.

Legendary Children of Atlanta, is ultimately a photo book project. Dean has started creating a new body of work exploring the city's new class of queer performers, as well as Atlanta's aging legends. In contrast to previous studio work, these portraits will be shot on 120 film in natural environments, both in and out of costume.

The book will be composed of these new photographs, as well as archival images, newspaper clippings, and nightlife flyers. There will also be a written component to the project, combining details about each performer and their first-hand accounts of Atlanta’s drag scene.
