Project Description

Snakes and Carnivorous Rabbits is an interdimensional tale of self-affirmation achieved through compassion and empathy, exploring themes of gender and cultural identity, classism, racism, fear, displacement of original inhabitants, wild animal and plant habitat destruction, genocide, compassion, empathy, endurance, perseverance, objectivity and perspective as it relates to the group and individual, power of belief, honesty, loyalty, addiction, power roles, political extremism, morality, mortality, function of binary, climate change, and their gradients of duality. By way of the treacherous actions of a snake, our protagonist finds themselves imprisoned, awaiting consumption by their captors. Through empathy, they gain perspective of the snake’s actions leading to compassion, then collaboration to defeat a common aggressor. Majid Araim seeks to present this as an operetta, complete with live pit orchestra, surrealist props and costuming, and fantastical set design utilizing triggered media as content for which the actors and orchestra will interact.
