New Logo, New Look: A Preview

And here it is…

Idea Capital strives to make Atlanta a uniquely supportive environment for artistic experimentation. When people the world over think of creatively adventurous places, we want them to think of Atlanta.

Our new logo communicates how seriously we take that vision, along with the energy it will take to get there.

Idea Capital began in 2008 as the dream of Atlanta artist Stuart Keeler who believed that artists could come together to reverse the shocking lack of funding for projects initiated by individual artists in the city. He was particularly concerned for artists who undertook risky, uncommercial and weird projects that would have trouble attracting funding even in the best circumstances.

Our initial public profile—open, fun, and playful—was designed for a city that had no idea what we were up to. To our knowledge, there had never been an initiative such as this before on this scale: an artist-driven, circular funding program that would create a rising tide to lift all boats across disciplines throughout the metro area.

The first eighteen years were therefore an introduction. The arts community discovered the potential power in supporting our own, and it let the world know how much Atlanta artists value risky, experimental art.

Now our mission shifts into a new phase. The funding remains important. But Idea Capital has catalyzed something even more important: we have built a community of incredible, innovative artists—a community of you and your peers. And Idea Capital has become the community’s way of showing how much new ideas matter.

Idea Capital’s new mission is to make this validation clear. We recognize Atlanta artists who conceive and execute important new ideas across the arts spectrum. Through our awards, we validate those who explore the uncertain and the risky. We acknowledge cultural producers with the audacity to change the tide.

Our new logo explores these ideas. The new Idea Capital wordmark is paired with The Jot, our symbol for the moment an idea first takes form. This is the mark you make when a brilliant thought awakens you in the night, when you grab a pen to get the ink and the ideas flowing. This is the first energetic mark you make on the back of a cocktail napkin when you come up with a brilliant sculpture project or a theatre costume or a character for your novel.

Idea Capital encourages that moment and a million more like it. That first powerful thought. Those first brilliant flashes of insight.

Idea Capital is your champion for those moments and for seeing them through. We stand with the creative community because, with you, we are the creative community. We stand for all the boundary pushing and edge testing you have within you.

Join Idea Capital as we embark on a new level of support for audacious ideas. Our new look is just the beginning. We will have plenty more in store for the artists who push and the art that pushes back.
