Young Huck & the Death of the Profit is the third chapter of a long-term feature-length movie project that reimagines the legend of St. George and the Dragon through a contemporary southern lens. This chapter follows the narrative of the James Baldwin short story The Death of the Prophet, written from the perspective of the son of a dying, Ultra-Orthodox pastor father. The project appropriates this narrative and inserts the characters of Mark Twain and Huckleberry Finn as the father and son respectively. Thematically overlaying the entire project is the House & Techno legend Green Velvet’s Discography, a favorite of Isaac Mehki’s father. The cinematic unfolding of this project happens through 2 individual performances: a live audio experience at a plantation involving local DJs, and a theatrical performance in which Isaac Mehki, as Huckleberry Finn, enacts his revenge on his abusive, prophetic father, Mark Twain, within the interior of a popular Atlanta nightclub. Both of these performances will be documented with a team of professionals. They will both be presented as individual video works of art, and will be included in the larger cinematic experience of St. George & the Dragon.
