Jackson Markovic has repeatedly returned to the dancefloor during his practice, observing it as a site of utopian contradiction and deep thinking. He plans to use his recent Idea Capital travel grant to attend and photograph Honcho Campout, an iconic dance music festival located in rural Pennsylvania. For 10 years Honcho has operated as a yearly haven for queer folks, carrying with it a wealth of point and shoot pictures and thinkpieces, gestures that have theorized the space into oblivion. Perhaps the most meaningful gesture is to just be there ; to stare at the many gay men in attendance not as an ironic gesture but an erotic one. Markovic plans on bringing a variety of cameras and processes to the festival, a participant just as much as an observer. It's a simple and funny proposition: to just be in a space founded on political origins, but also what could be more utopian?
