Project description: Novoa Dances mixed rep is a triple bill featuring three concert contemporary dance works choreographed by Meaghan Novoa in collaboration with 11 Atlanta based dance artists. The program features "Momentary Impulse" (2022), "Gyre" (2023), and a world premiere. With music by Robert Een, "Momentary Impulse" explores desire, reflection and self-discovery through a queered duet. "Gyre" takes inspiration from folk dances such as Dabke, Sardana and the Hora, exploring themes of community, ritual and energetic harmony within a circle dance. The final work on the program, currently untitled, is a premiere with music by Michael Wall and confronts the psychological impact of anxiety and uncertainty in modern times. This premiere takes inspiration from Meaghan's own personal fears regarding their fellow Latinx community members safety, the current hypervisibility and vilification of LGBTQIA+ individuals, and the ongoing genocides happening worldwide. Together, these works form a narrative of connection to self, others, and community through movement that is vulnerable and celebrates intersectionality and inclusion.
